CVCC has a church youth program that worksYouth programs of all types are available in our communities – from drug free groups, key clubs, sports clubs and many more, there are a wide variety of ways to involve youth in various programs. But to have something that engages you and challenges you to be the best you can be is more difficult to find. These types of programs typically revolve around service of some kind. I had a high school friend recently talking to me about different ways to get involved in the community and the subject of service projects came up in the discussion. She looked at me suspiciously and asked whether they were church driven events and how she and her other high school friends wouldn’t go if it were organized by a church. She and her friends seriously consider Church Youth programs as boring and a waste of time. I can’t disagree more. She obviously has some idea about church youth programs that comes from either a bad experience or rumors from someone else. A good program is engaging and relevant to your life. It is fun and exciting and at the same time works to address those areas in all of us that keep us alone and afraid. Each of us have those places in us where we feel we are getting everything wrong, those places where we are afraid someone will find out the truth. You are not alone. Together, we can have an incredible time laughing and playing – and at some point, when and if you feel comfortable, you can look at those harder areas with the support of safe and confidential friends and leaders. Everyone comes from a different place. But there seems to be a consensus among many youth today that church programs are too preachy and force ideas down people’s throats. In EPICC, the youth program at Crescenta Valley Community Church, the entire idea of “preachy” doesn’t fly with the adults or the kids. You want to have a good time, you want to hear the truth and you want to be known. This will all happen as you get involved with the EPICC youth group at CVCC and the entire youth program. |
