Our purpose is to develop fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ through a committed relationship with: Father God, the local church, and those who do not yet know Jesus Christ.
The Great Commandment: "Teacher, which is the most important commandment in the law of Moses?" Jesus replied, " 'You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' All the other commandments and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments. Matthew 22:36 – 40 The Great Commission: "Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Matthew 28:19 – 20 Crescenta Valley Community Church exists as a church to fulfill the following 5 purposes: 1. To worship the Lord On an individual level, worship means to love the Lord our God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength (Mark 12:30). On the corporate level (the church), worship refers to coming together to celebrate the presence of the Lord and all that He is because He is worthy of all that we have to offer. (John 4:23-24, Matthew 4:10, Psalm 34:3). 2. To evangelize those who don’t know Jesus in a personal way Evangelism means communicating the Good News of how Jesus has saved us to those who don’t know or understand that message and to invite them to join God’s eternal family. (Matthew 28:19-20, Mark 16:15, Luke 24:47-49, John 20:21, and Acts 1:8). 3. To live in community with one another When we confess Jesus as our Lord and Savior, He calls us "to belong" to his family. Just as a healthy family would never abandon a newborn baby, so the local church should strive to welcome and incorporate new Christians into the active life of the church family. (Acts 2:42, Ephesians 2:19). 4. To disciple those who belong to our church A "disciple" literally means "student". At CVCC we are called not only to reach people and invite them to join our family, but to teach them God’s Word so that they may develop spiritual maturity. A child will not grow into a healthy adult if he or she is not fed a balanced diet. By the same token, a child who refuses to eat or does not eat well will develop into a sickly adult. (Colossians 1:28, Ephesians 4:12b-13, Acts 2:42). 5. To engage in active ministry The essence of ministry is to demonstrate God’s love to others by meeting them at their points of need and hurt in the name of Jesus. The range of needs varies and may encompass spiritual, emotional, relational, physical or other issues. Understand that the senior pastor is not the only minister?we are ALL called to be ministers! (Mark 12:31, Ephesians 4:12).
These five purposes also serve as the basis for our church slogan:
A place to belong...A place to become!
